| There are many wonderful and highly picturesque regions
scattered all around the island of Evia, where you can enjoy perfect

all around. The region of Lihada ( approximately 150km from Halkida
), in the northern part of Evia is one such place, and it is here

Lihada is surrounded by luscious nature and greenery

With wonderful views of the sea, and a charming traditional atmosphere,
Lihada is one of the more special and unique parts of Evia.
The traditional fishing village of Lihada offers a truly unique
and picturesque setting, with quaint tavernas and cafes located
all along the bay. The colourful fishing boats add a certain charm
to the village.
The atmosphere in Lihada is a very friendly and welcoming one, where
one will be made to instantly feel at home by the charming locals. |
Lihada is also home to one of the most picturesque
coastal resorts on Evia. The resort of Agios Georgios is a wonderful
place to enjoy your holidays on Evia. The "Rooms to Let Association
of Agios Georgios" has a wonderful selection of rooms and accommodation
available for visitors.
There is a daily ferry service from Agios Georgios to the ports
on the coast of Fthiotida in Central Greece, which makes the area
one that is easily accessible.
There is a lovely beach where you can enjoy the crystal clear waters
of the Aegean Sea, and relax as you listen to the sound of the waves
lapping up against the shore as you lie back and escape from the
noise and stress of everyday life.
As well as the beautiful beach, there are also some other interesting
places around Agios Georgios and Lihada that are worth visiting
if you get the chance. Located on the hills of "Profitis Ilias"
is the site known as "Pasogourni". Here is a very impressive
cave, that has yet to be fully explored inside. There are also several
very beautiful churches and chapels scattered around the region
that are a delight to visit. |
| The whole region is one that is perfect for trekking
and exploring. Following the road from the village to the top of
Mount Kineon you will find the ruins of a Venetian Fort, providing
you with stunning panoramic views. There are also ruin of the old
church of Panagia Lihada and the centuries old tree that stands
in the yard of the church. |
Another unique attraction here are the "Lihadonisia
islands", which are located opposite the cape of Lihada. These
small islets resurfaced after a huge earthquake thousands of years
ago.
These lovely islets have rich vegetation and lovely sandy beaches,
making them popular with visitors seeking a truly peaceful and untouched
place to swim, as well as scuba diving which is popular here due
to the several shipwrecks at the bottom of the sea.
You can reach these islands by boat. There are several agencies
in the resort that offer boat hire, and if you have the opportunity,
it is definitely worth paying the islands a visit. |

As well as attracting visitors, these islands have
also attracted another welcome guests, of which they are most proud.
During the last few years, a group of the famous "monahous-monahous"
seals have relocated to the islands.
During the month of August, there are two religious festivals that
take place in Agios Georgios. On the 6th August, the celebration
of the name day of "Sotiras" takes place, and on the 15th
August, it is the name day of "Panayia". On both days,
large festivities that place, with traditional music and dance.
Visitors to the town are most welcome to join in with the celebrations,
and sample some local wine and food, and enjoy the unique atmosphere.
Lihada and Agios Georgios are extremely beautiful parts of Evia,
and a place where you can experience a very traditional and unique
Greek island holiday. With the picturesque setting, and the relaxed
and traditional way of life, visitors here will fall in love with
the magic and charm of the area, and will find themselves returning
back, year after year. |
